Painter, installation artist and filmmaker Irene Schueller was born in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1974. She is the 2011 winner of the “Media Award Upper Rhine“ for her video work “Knot.” Her debut feature-length documentary “Tango on a Visit,“ was completed in 2017, with the support of well-respected funders, such as the MFG Baden-Wuerttemberg, the Berlin Senate Chancellery and the Freiburg Culture Office. Schueller was an instructor for art, biology and English, before dedicating her professional life exclusively to the arts in 2008. She studied painting and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts, Karlsruhe and at the Weißensee Art School in Berlin. During her art studies she discovered her love for film. Upon receiving her art school diploma in 2013, Schueller trained in film production and directing with famous directors, such as Andres Veiel. Since 2008 Schuellers works have been presented in numerous group and solo shows in Germany and also in France. She also has worked and studied in India, the United States, Great Britain and China, where her videos and installations were displayed. Schueller’s work emphasizes how bodies react, adapt and conform to various social spaces and the disruptive of effect that space has on human sensibility and social convention. Schueller lives and works in Freiburg, Germany.
